Recover from Various Types of Ransomware Infections with The Help of Free Tools & Decryptors (Updated List).

Sometimes I wonder who is really making money from Ransomware when I hear about how some data recovery centers are cashing in on this horrible trend. I’ve heard of cases where decrypting files ‘captured’ by Ransomware thieves has cost some users up to $20,000. What really makes my blood boil is that some of these examples are data recovery centers overcharging – okay, taking advantage of people – and all they are doing is using tools that you can find online and use for free.

There is a disclaimer I need to insert here.

The newer type of Ransomware will render your files impossible to decrypt after infection. However, many of the older “classic” versions of the virus are actually decryptable with free tools I’ll show you that you can locate online.

I will add that some of the decryptors are fairly easy to use. Others require a bit of know-how and this is where you would want to seriously consider the services of a data recovery center. For example, if your device gets infected and you discover that the version of Ransomware in use can be decrypted by any of the decryptors I will list for you below, then consider yourself lucky because whoever infected you has not upgraded to the newer virus versions.

Plus, if one of the decryptors below works for you, remember to thank the developers of those tools as they just saved you a huge headache and probably between 2 and 10 Bitcoins to get access to your files.

But what if you don’t see the Ransomware that has infected your device on this list or the version differs? Well, there is no nice way to put this. You are going to have to buck up and pay the ransom in order to get your data back. However, you may be able to save a few dollars by seeking the assistance of a data recovery center. While we can’t recover the data with software in these cases, we do have experience dealing with these criminals and can negotiate a better deal for you.

As you can see from this list, there a several types of Ransomware out there. Not all of them work in the same way, either as encryptions vary. Some types just infect a single PC or device and some of the newer versions – like Dharma 2.1 – attack all the devices that are connected to a shared network including servers. As you can imagine, an infection of that type in any setting would be crippling but more so to a corporate environment where invoicing data and important backups could be part of the infection.

What To Do If You Do Get Attacked

The bottom line is to not panic if you do get nailed with Ransomware. That’s because you may find the decryptor you need. You just have to be patient and do your research. Should you strike out in locating the decryptor you need, your next move is to contact a reputable data recovery center with a successful track record in dealing with this very scenario. Even if you end up paying the ransom, with a good data recovery center working on your behalf, the ransom can be negotiated to a more reasonable amount.
